The Crag’s Guerrilla Team meeting is just around the corner…

For those who aren’t aware, Guerrillas will be working in their school to grow the sport of climbing. They’ll do that by starting (or working with) a climbing club at their school, promoting Student Nite and Half Price Saturdays, and working with our Facebook group, “Craggers”. As a reward for their work, Guerrillas will receive a 20% discount on Pro Shop gear, be given free entry into an upcoming comp sponsored by The Crag, and CLIMB FOR FREE!

Summer’s coming to an end, and Summer Member’s Only Hours are going with it. As of Monday, August 11th, we’re going back to our regular hours (posted on the left sidebar).

Don’t worry; they’ll be back soon enough. In the meantime, make sure to take advantage of Student Nite every Thursday and Half Price Climbing every Saturday from 6p-8p!

At long last, the wait appears to be over for the arrival of the newest addition to the Scarpa lineup (and to The Crag’s Pro Shop)!!The Scarpa Feroces have shipped, and we anticipate the first shipment to arrive early the week of August 4th.Despite the delays in production, the early reviews on this shoe are very, very good. Urban Climber reported that the Feroce is “another serious performer in the already fierce Scarpa portfolio,” and that the Feroce is “tailored for hard bouldering and climbing when the need for digging into pockets, smearing face and stuffing your toes in thin cracks is prevalent.”If you’re ready to invest in a pair of high performance shoes for your fall & winter projects, come by The Crag and check ‘em out!!(by the way, if you’re looking to pick up the new issue of Urban Climber, you can get it from The Crag! We also carry Climbing and Rock & Ice!)

The bouldering cave will be closed from Saturday, July 19th until Saturday July 26th in preparation for The Summer Showdown. 

Speaking of super awesome bouldering comps, you should come to the comp even if you won’t be able (or aren’t interested) in competing. In addition to the amazing climbing you’re going to witness, you’ll also have the opportunity to win gear, Crag memberships, and a pair of La Sportiva mountain running shoes!!

In celebration of Independence Day, we’ll be closed on Friday, July 4th.Enjoy the day with friends and family and take a minute to give thanks for living in a country where we have the freedom to climb (and fall), voice our opinions and directly effect the decisions and direction of our country.We’ll also be closed on Monday, July 14th for a staff event.  

The Summer Showdown is the 2nd comp in the King of The Crag comp series.

$10 to enter (cash only). Starts at 4p. Recreational, Intermediate, Advanced and Open Divisions for men & women. Winner of each division gets cash.

We’ll also have a raffle for prizes such as La Sportiva climbing shoes, So Ill chalk bags & other cool stuff! (All raffle proceeds benefit the Southeastern Climbers Coalition)

Congratulations to one of our staffers, Ashley Ladd, on winning the Recreational Division of last week’s bouldering comp at Climb Nashville!!! If you want to climb hard like Ashley, you should be hanging out in our bouldering area, cranking some of our new problems on The Cave, The Mushroom Wall, and The Flat Wall.

Route Management Update:What a busy two weeks we’ve had! Last week we reset the Small Slab (with our new mega-feature, Nicros’ No Evil!). The wall has a great mix of styles and grades; everything from nice, flowing 5.6’s and 5.7’s to really challenging and tricky 11’s & 12’s!This week we’re putting the finishing touches on the Left Hump. All you super strong climbers out there are going to want to check out our first FIVE THIRTEEN! Better start projecting it while you can! The wall also has some great “style climbs”, including a 5.7 that focuses on using pockets, a 5.8 that works on your sidepulls, and a  5.11 with some tricky hand play.Comp Update:Our Summer Comp (as of yet untitled) will be held on Saturday, July 26th. We’ll be lining up sponsors and working out all the details  over the next couple of weeks - this will be one you don’t want to miss!!!Last things - ask one of our staff members about free “club accounts” and free wifi for members!!CLIMB ON!
